Hannah Schickedanz, Sarah Scott and Jessica Arcus (L-R)

Join sisters artist Hannah Schickedanz and poet Jessica Arcus for a talk about their collaborative exhibition Human. Nature. Discover the inspirations behind Hannah's evocative paintings and sculptures, and Jessica's sensory poetry, as they explore themes of connection, quiet beauty, and the interplay between creativity and nature. This talk will be facilitated by poet Sarah Scott.


Artist’s Biographies

Hannah Schickedanz is a self-taught artist, based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington. Her work is a is imbued with a strong sense of composition cultivated throughout her 20+ years in the design world. With an eye for observation and a love for the overlooked, each piece is a journey through memories, objects, stories and generations. Her art is a celebration of the inherent beauty in the natural world, coupled with a deep yearning to rediscover humanity’s place within it. Find her @hannahschickedanz_artist


Sarah Scott’s poems have been published in Ōrongohau|Best New Zealand Poems, Turbine|Kapohau, NZ Poetry Shelf and other publications. Her manuscript, “Sun Goddess’, based on the paintings of Rita Angus, was awarded 2023 runner-up in the Kathleen Grattan Poetry Prize for a Sequence of Poems. She has an MA in Creative Writing from the International Institute of Modern Letters and currently works as Reviews Editor for a fine line literary journal. She recently curated the Poetry Lightbox Series in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, where she lives with her husband and sons.

 

Jessica Arcus is a poet who is compelled to give voice to the quiet and overlooked things – watching for divine presence in the day-to-dayness of life. Her writing is evocative, generous and vibrating with sensory details – something she attributes to her rich childhood spent roaming her family’s North Canterbury farm. She has been published in Landfall 246, Takahē, Rapture: an Anthology of Performance Poetry from Aotearoa/NZ (AUP), Mayhem Journal, Catalyst, Quick Brown Dog Journal, NZ Poetry yearbook, Turbine/Kapohau and Ekstasis Magazine. She lives in Ōtautahi with her husband and two children. Find her @jessica.arcus
