‘Accepdance’ is a double bill of live performance by Pōneke-based emerging artists Otto Kosok and Amit Noy, in collaboration with emerging producer Christina Guieb and lighting designer Elekis Poblete Teirney.

The Wellington premiere show features two contrasting pieces, and will take place at the Basement Theatre at Te Whaea from the 26th-28th February.

Otto Kosok’s work “The Creature” is an exploration of human struggle featuring two actors, two dancers, and a 3.5 metre tall abstract puppet. “The Creature” brings together diverse traditions of performance — theatre, puppetry, dance, and lighting — to get at our struggles, our deep feelings, and the root of what makes us human. For many of us, this year has been a struggle. Otto found that certain stresses and emotions seemed to loom over his mind like a giant creature, particularly during the NZ Covid-19 lockdown.

The puppet, also known as ‘The Creature’, approximates the shape of a four-legged spider, and is made of bamboo, dark wool, and thick string. The puppet will serve as a representation of human struggle onstage, and the piece will revolve around the performer’s interaction with the ‘The Creature’.

Amit Noy’s work “Love is Everything explores ideas of whakapapa, love, and belonging through the lens of the artist’s own Latinx-Israeli family. “Love is Everything” will be created and performed by Amit alongside his own family — an economist, a perinatal mental health educator, and a schoolgirl. Amit’s family make up the tapestry of their life, and they aim to explore their intense, intimate relation in a performative setting to ask questions about how we exist in the world, together.

“Love is Everything” will combine movement alongside film projection, which will be composed of abstracted and heavily edited home videos. The four performers will dance, talk, laugh, yell, and sweat.

“Love is Everything” looks to practice being alive, and to imagine collective living-in-difference. The root of the performance is an exploration of love, as a generative body-feeling that moves you .
