Feb – March 2019

Toi Pōneke are proud to offer our 3rd dance residency to Well Fare State to present their first full length work Flying Down Sand Dunes at the NZ Fringe in March.

Well Fare State is a new dance company established by the 2018 graduates of the New Zealand School of Dance. Sebastian Geilings and Olivia Foley are in the role of choreographers and the company members include: Jack Jenkins, Braedyn Humphries, Alanna Main, Jareen Wee, Lafia Ta'ala and Lachlan Broughton.

With support from DANZ, Chris Jannides - Movement Tutor at Toi Whakaari will be their choreographic mentor.

The dancers are joined by Producer – Tommy Berridge, a recent graduate of Toi Whakaari. Tommy will be mentored by Wellington Producer Adrianne Roberts.

Flying Down Sand Dunes, explores the concept of the human condition, specifically focusing on fragility, love, strength and loss. This new work features an original soundscape by Jack Jenkins.

Contributing to the Wellington arts ecology through their visionary contemporary dance, these artists are proud to be developing and sharing their choreographic voices in New Zealand’s cultural capital.

The Toi Pōneke Dance Residency offers dance studio rehearsal space, financial and practical support for the production, and access to experienced mentors.
