Join us to hear a work-in-progress reading from Andi C. Buchanan. Andi will be reading extracts from their draft Young Adult novel, Poison, which explores interdependence, community, and our expectations of self-reliance, and is filled with plants both poisoned and poisonous. Andi has been working on the novel over the last 8 weeks while on the Toi Pōneke d/Deaf and/or Disabled Artist Development Residency.

The upper chamber is on the first floor in the west building. The room will have natural lighting from the windows. For wheelchair users, we'd recommend using the ramp entrance at our east building then using the lift. Take the overbridge across to the west building. Andi C. Buchanan is a writer of mostly speculative fiction, living in Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai / Lower Hutt.
Winner of Sir Julius Vogel Awards for From a Shadow Grave (Paper Road Press, 2019) and their short story “Girls Who Do Not Drown” (Apex, 2018), their fiction is also published in Fireside, Mermaids Monthly, Cossmass Infinities, and more. Their novel Sanctuary (Robot Dinosaur Press, 2022) tells the story of a queer, neurodivergent found-family who live in a haunted house.
Andi has an MA in English from Victoria University of Wellington. In 2024 they curated and performed in the LitCrawl event "I'm disabled...so of course I'm a villain!". Their non-fiction has been published in Pantograph Punch and the Otherhood anthology from Massey University Press. They also write contemporary fantasy / sapphic romance as Andi R. Christopher.
