Toi Pōneke Arts Centre is pleased to announce that writer Helen Vivienne Fletcher is the recipient of its 2024 d/Deaf and/or Disabled Artist Development Residency.

Helen is a children’s and young adult author, storyteller and award winner playwright from Pōneke. Her most recent work, Five Slices of Another Life, brought together five New Zealand playwrights to create new plays all featuring disabled characters. Tackling heavy subjects with a healthy dose of humour, Helen describes her style as “funny tragedy” and invites you to decide for yourself whether you want to laugh or cry.

As an artist resident at Toi Pōneke, Helen will develop two new play ideas The God of Unborn Children and Best Friends for…Life.

Helen Vivienne Fletcher will be in residence at Toi Pōneke Arts Centre in Wellington from 12 February to 24 March 2024.
