Making with the Maramataka

Creative Jewellery Workshop

Jewellery by Keri-Mei Zagrobelna

Artist Keri-Mei will be hosting a making workshop where friends and whanau can come in, have a little kai and a cup of tea while making pendants or earrings out of shells, beads, polymer clay and other materials. This will be a fun social ‘hands on’ making session where throughout the workshop Keri-Mei will share and discuss the benefits of creativity, hauora, mental health, well being and its relations with the maramataka. Materials will be provided but please feel free to bring along any crafty bits and pieces you would like to play with. You will leave with your own hand crafted wearable piece to see you into the Māori new year.

Artists Biography:

Keri-Mei Zagrobelna

Keri-Mei Zagrobelna (Te Āti Awa & Te Whānau-ā-Apanui) graduated from Whitireia with a BaPPa in visual arts and comes from a background entwined in museums and art. Currently working from her Pōneke (Wellington) based studio she also holds a history of lecturing, public art commissions, art mentoring and is a jewellery tutor. Her work aesthetic represents the connectedness to her immediate environment, whakapapa and upbringing. It speaks of cultural communication and interpersonal relationships through the language of art.
