Artist biographies:

Yumoi Zheng

Yumoi Zheng is a Chinese Transfeminin artist working with video, performance, sound, fashion design and poetry based in Zhanjiang, China. As a Chinese transfeminine person they find it liberating to be able to investigate these interweaving identities through their creative practice. Their work explores memory and nostalgia and how they can find new possibilities for their future through hope, connection and love.

Angel C Fitzgerald

Angel C. Fitzgerald is an artist, writer and filmmaker living in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington. Through their work they seek to articulate personal subject matter with recent films focusing on love, heartbreak, friendship and transition. They’re invested in the emotional dimensions of cinema, with a focus on poetic and visual storytelling.

Their work has been exhibited at Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū; RM Gallery, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland; Artspace Aotearoa, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland; play_station, Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington; Te Tuhi, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland; and Blue Oyster Project Space, Ōtepoti Dunedin.

Angel is also a facilitator at play_station artist run space.

Isadora Lao

Isadora Lao (they/them) is a loveable and silly New Zealand born Chinese artist based in Pōneke Wellington. They have been freelancing for the past 7 years primarily filling their schedule with lighting design (most recently Wellington Ballroom's (House of Marama) award winning show ARAWHATA and was awarded Lighting Designer of the Year at the 2023 Wellington Theatre Awards.

They’ve also designed sets for theatre shows, and in their spare time they enjoy photography and were one of the two winners for Photobook NZ back in 2022. They’re also in the process of becoming a water baby.

Growing up they tried to fit into “normal New Zealand culture” by editing themselves and sacrificing cultural connections with their family. Then, over the last few years, their reflection on this time led them to embrace all the elements of their identity and culture as a queer, non-binary, first generation Chinese human bean
