Join contemporary jeweller Louise Hill for a relaxed, hands-on workshop where you’ll create your own cross-body pocket bag to carry your phone close. Participants will construct, embellish, and personalise their pockets while exploring the themes behind Louise’s exhibition – pockets as sites of practicality, power, and absence. Together we’ll consider who gets pockets, who doesn’t, and what that says about our histories and identities. Come ready to make, chat, and carry your ideas with you.

What’s provided: All materials and tools needed to create your take-home pocket bag.
What to bring: Any ideas or embellishments you’d like to incorporate into your design.
Who this workshop is for: Craft lovers.

Places are limited so bookings essential.

Louise Hill is a Wellington-based contemporary jeweller whose work blends humour, bold colour, and sharp social commentary. Working with a wide range of materials, she creates playful pieces that question everyday habits and cultural expectations, particularly around clothing, bodies, and gender. Her practice has a feisty, energetic spirit that invites audiences to think differently about the objects they wear and carry.

In Each Others Pockets

By Louise Hill

Saturday 25 Oct - 21 Nov

In Each Other’s Pockets opens Friday 24 October 2025 at Toi Pōneke Gallery, Te Aro, Wellington.

Through her playful installation, contemporary jeweller Louise Hill interrogates the politics of pockets; the private spaces that shape how we move through the world, investigating what it means for some to be equipped with the tools they need, while others are not.
