Amy Jean Barnett
Toi Pōneke Arts Centre and New Zealand School of Music Te Kōkī are delighted to announce Amy Jean Barnett as the 2019 Sound Artist in Residence. Amy is a graduate of the NZSM and recently returned from Germany where she completed an MFA in Media Art and Design at The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
Amy will be in residence at Toi Pōneke Arts Centre from October 1 until 20 December.
Over her residency, which culminates in an exhibition at Toi Pōneke Gallery, Amy will be working with material she has collected from scientists and other industry professionals with a focus on soundscape ecology in New Zealand’s marine environment. Her practice is research intensive, guided by examining different forms of knowledge across various disciplines.
Amy’s exhibition at Toi Pōneke Gallery aims to consider notions of observation and perception that question our physiological relationship toward environments beyond our perceivable lifeworlds.
