Te Whē Wānanga is an empowering, transformational wānanga that explores the Whakapapa of Sound & Vibration through the lens of Māori cosmology and traditional music practices used for art, healing, health and community.

Facilitated by internationally renowned artist and Tohunga o Te Whē, Māmā Mihirangi, this wānanga offers a sacred, creative space for participants to experience the vibrational and ancestral power of music as a conscious and expressive force.

With a focus on the Whakapapa of Sound & Vibration, this wānanga weaves together the cosmological origins of vibration and frequency with contemporary applications of music, voice, and performance.

Participants will explore their unique sound signatures, deepen their understanding of Māori sound traditions, and unlock the potential of music as a tool for personal and collective transformation.

Mihirangi

Mihirangi is a solo artist of contemporary originals and soulful dance world roots with a rare performance style. Creating her own band sound live in front of her audience using a loop pedal, the key to Mihirangi's sound is the layering of her own vocal sounds. From the foundation of fat solid bass lines to intricately layered harmonies, rhythmic ‘ska’ chops, sensuous jazzy riffs and beat-boxing, it's all done with her voice. Also a multi-instrumentalist Mihirangi plays percussion, guitar and traditional Māori instruments.

Renowned for her distinctive vocal style with an extraordinary range of power, expression, vitality and intensity, Mihirangi possesses both feminine tenderness and girl power. An activist and a dream weaver with a confidence and credibility in her natural expression of stagecraft she is a performer who imaginatively reflects the moment.

Mihirangi brings over 30 years of international performance and facilitation experience, weaving traditional Māori knowledge with contemporary sound work. This wānanga provides participants with practical tools, artistic inspiration, and a profound connection to the sacred whakapapa of sound and vibration.
