Te Whē Wānanga is an empowering, transformational wānanga that explores the Whakapapa of Sound & Vibration through the lens of Māori cosmology and traditional music practices used for art, healing, health and community.
Facilitated by internationally renowned artist and Tohunga o Te Whē, Māmā Mihirangi, this wānanga offers a sacred, creative space for participants to experience the vibrational and ancestral power of music as a conscious and expressive force.
With a focus on the Whakapapa of Sound & Vibration, this wānanga weaves together the cosmological origins of vibration and frequency with contemporary applications of music, voice, and performance.
Participants will explore their unique sound signatures, deepen their understanding of Māori sound traditions, and unlock the potential of music as a tool for personal and collective transformation.
About Māmā Mihirangi
Of Ngāti Rākei and Ngāti Waikorara, Māmā Mihirangi is a Tohunga o Te Whē and a lifelong practitioner of Indigenous vibrational healing. She studied for nine years under Matua Billy Tuhua of Ngā Tohunga o Ngā Hau e Whā, in Te Whare Wānanga o Io Matangaro, the sacred teachings of Io, the unseen source within Māori cosmology. Her work is deeply rooted in the spiritual and vibrational genealogies of sound, known as Te Whē, which she carries as a sacred responsibility and everyday practice.
Raised on a farm in Mangapeehi and immersed in the life of Rereahu Marae, Mihirangi has a strong foundation in kapa haka, with eight years of performance experience with Rereahu and Ngā Iwi o Te Putorino. Her artistry extends through three decades of international touring, teaching, and collaboration as a professional musician, composer, and cultural advocate. She shares this knowledge to support others to reconnect with their own ancestral gifts and whakapapa vibration.
With 13 years of formal vocal training, including with Jo Estill (3 years), Seth Riggs (4 years), Per Bristow (2 years), Gary May (2 years), and Kavisha Mazzella (2 years), Mihirangi brings a rare and holistic perspective using voice as both instrument and vessel for awakening gifts, deep healing, purpose, and cultural expression.
Her wānanga are transformative spaces where learning is intuitive, grounded in tikanga, mātauranga, and centred on empowering others to revive their gifts, remember who they are, and align with the vibration of whakapapa and purpose.
