Kieran Monoghan
6 June - 4 July
Sonic artist Kieran Monaghan presents GUEST, an interdisciplinary exhibition of sound, image and organic matter, which offers up a sonic practice for the Anthropocene.
This body of work explores a practice that places the ‘human’ not at the centre, but as an ongoing active collaborator. Working as a member of the non-human/tech/human trio, vegetable.machine.animal, Monaghan makes space where the voice of the ‘Other’ is amplified and essential to the voice of the ‘Whole’. By decentering the human, Monaghan has set in motion a horizontal, interactive, and interspecies framework that remains a fertile and tumbling place of play.
GUEST is a sound installation, an audible representation of a silent world made available to hear. GUEST is a CD, recorded during the residency, this album contains 13 tracks with 15 incredibly adventurous musicians and sound artists. GUEST is a collection of words, offering both prompt and pause in fluid proportions. GUEST is about making space for the other.
GUEST was developed during the 2024 Sonic Artist residency supported by Creative New Zealand, the New Zealand School of Music and Toi Pōneke Arts Centre.
