He Whare Mahana - a warm house, a full house, a cosy kainga to nurture your dreams and the infi nite queer possibilities. Tātou āhuru mōwai, nau mai, haere mai.
A whare where your queer kaumatua, your gay aunties, your takatāpui tuākana, welcome you with a cuppa, a warm blanket and endless understanding and aroha.
You see yourself in how they've decorated, you feel the boundless, fl uid whakapapa that fl ows through us all. A billion things plastered on the walls, nothing perfect, but a proud display of everything you are and no rules on what you can become.
This group exhibition is curated by Utu ā Matimati - takatāpui art collective. The celebration of takatāpui futures, remembers the journey of our tuākana, and refl ects on hau ora takatāpui. Inspiration is taken from how we, as takatāpui, occupy space. Placing pride in the things we use to adorn our whare because they represent us and the kaupapa we hold in our hearts.
This whare is chokka, just the way we like it! Filled to the brim with community, aroha, and deep expression, all connected through takatāpuitanga.
An expression of the intrinsic diversity in our community. Like all realms of the natural environment, te taiao, diversity and fl uidity is fundamental for our collective survival and thriving.
Takatāpuitanga has always had a special place within te ao Māori. This is not a new whare, we are just keeping it warm, and we want you to feel safe, seen and warm in our whare too.
