Emerging Production Designer Residency 2024 - Call for applications

Residency runs from Mon 29 April – Sunday 2 June (5weeks)

This is an opportunity for an emerging Wellington based production designer, working in areas of Set Design for Dance Theatre. They will receive access to a studio at Toi Pōneke and a research and development stipend for 25 hrs a week for 5 weeks, to develop a new project with our resident choreographer over April/June 2024.  They will have the opportunity to present to an industry-only showing at the end of the residency. They will also have access to a paid design mentor. (Mentor could be from the Lighting, Sound or Set Design industry)

Production Designer Stipend for 5 weeks $3,750

Materials fee $500

Mentor stipend $800 for 4 sessions including industry showing feedback

Eligibility

 Applicants must be:

  • New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.

  • Wellington based emerging designer – freelance.

  • Undergraduate students are ineligible to apply. Preference will be shown to candidates that propose projects that are innovative and to a professional standard.

  • Currently residing in Wellington City* and be intending to live in Wellington for at least one year after they complete the residency.

* Wellington City based New Zealand citizens or permanent residents. You must provide evidence that you have lived in Wellington City on a semi-permanent basis over the past 3 years. And you must have a current Wellington City address at the time of application. If you are short listed you will be required to verify this address and your NZ residency status.
