Bena Jackson and Teresa Collins
21 September - 12 October
With materials collected largely from recycled and second-hand sources, Teresa Collins and Bena Jackson introduce additions and alterations to Toi Pōneke's gallery space.
Initially founded upon an iPhone archive of everyday observations, the artists have designed furniture and sculptural interventions which reference found objects and situations, reflecting some of the opportune and ingenious ways in which urban environments exist around us.
Storm water Solutions recalls DIY construction methods, while also employing rudimentary, sometimes delicate, self-taught crafts. Through the repurposing and reassembling of objects and materials, new potentials in design and function are brought to light. The exhibition weaves amusement and sentimentality into material narratives.
