Toi Pōneke Arts Centre is delighted to announce Stevei Houkāmau as the 2021 Toi Pōneke Visual Artist in Residence.
Due to Wellington being at Alert Level 2, the artists have decided to cancel the final live activation that was scheduled for Saturday 26 June at 2pm. The gallery will remain open on Saturday until 4pm, so if you haven't seen the show it's still well worth the visit!
Performers Bianca Hyslop and Paige Shand will co-inhabit the gallery space to perform a live activation through the modality of dance. A performance that has been crafted specifically for the installation: Te Mauri o Pōhutu. Artworks by Bianca Hyslop, Rowan Pierce and Tūī Matira Ranapiri Ransfield.

TE MAURI O PŌHUTU is a new series of collaborative installation and time-based artworks by Bianca Hyslop, Rowan Pierce and Tūī Matira Ranapiri Ransfield.
The work responds to the loss of mātauranga Māori due to cultural interruption and assimilation. It is a sensual offering that addresses the fragility of memory, connection to whenua and reclamation of culture from within foreign frameworks.
Toi Pōneke Arts Centre and the New Zealand Film Commission are inviting applications for WRITE ROOM - Wellington Screenwriter Residency 2021. This opportunity is for a Wellington-based screenwriter with a feature film project at a stage that will benefit from focused development towards completion of a draft of the script. Applications due by 5pm 7 June 2021.
